Founding Attorney, Land Legal Group
Joseph Land is the founding attorney of Land Legal Group, a Los Angeles family law firm he established in 2016 (formerly Land Whitmarsh, LLP). Licensed by the State Bar of California since 2009, he has spent more than 15 years focused on family law, representing clients in divorce, child custody, child support, and dependency matters across Los Angeles County and the surrounding Ventura and Santa Barbara areas.
He has been selected as a Super Lawyers in family law every year since 2021 and holds a perfect 10.0 “Superb” rating on Avvo.
Background and Experience
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joseph earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland before attending Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island, where he earned his J.D. in 2009.
During law school, he volunteered in a community justice clinic, gaining hands-on experience in family law and domestic violence matters, and assisted at a legal clinic serving the homeless population of Providence.
After relocating to California, Mr. Land served as a volunteer prosecutor with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, trying DUI, assault, and battery cases before both the bench and juries. He went on to practice at an established Los Angeles family law firm, handling divorce, child custody, child support, arbitrations, and mediations.
He later worked as an attorney with the Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers, defending parents and families against the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), an experience that shaped his commitment to protecting parental rights in high-stakes children’s law and dependency cases.
In 2016, Mr. Land founded Land Legal Group on a single principle reflected in the firm’s motto: putting children and families first. Today, he leads a team of five attorneys serving families throughout Southern California.
